HippocampusInfo.org pools information about seahorses from around the world.

Since 2002, seahorses have been listed on the international accord Convention on the International Trade of Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora. As of 2004, the seahorse trade must be controlled or monitored by members of CITES.

Created by Project Seahorse, with funding from the Whitley Fund for Nature, UK, HippocampusInfo.org assists CITES Parties by providing:

  • Easy-to-use guides for identifying all seahorse species (dried or live) and the seahorse species found in the nine focal CITES Parties/countries
  • Searchable libraries of reference material about many seahorse and marine conservation topics
  • Historic trade information for CITES Parties or countries
  • More links to marine conservation documents or websites
