Our vision is a world in which marine ecosystems are healthy and well-managed.
Project Seahorse is an interdisciplinary and international organization committed to conservation and sustainable use of the world’s coastal marine ecosystems. We engage in connected research and management at scales ranging from community initiatives to international accords. Collaborating with stakeholders and partners, seahorses are our focus for finding marine conservation solutions.
The team includes about 40 professional members plus local support staff working in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Philippines, Portugal, Sweden, U.K., and the United States. Project Seahorse has also managed projects in South Africa and Vietnam, and collaborates with colleagues in many more countries.
Our central coordinating office is at the Fisheries Centre, University of British Columbia in Canada, where Dr. Amanda Vincent holds the Canada Research Chair in Marine Conservation. Our Associate Director is Dr. Heather Koldewey, Curator for Aquariums at the Zoological Society of London, England. Activities in the Philippines operate through the Project Seahorse Foundation for Marine Conservation, a registered non-governmental organization overseen by National Director Amado Blanco and a board of trustees.
